Place Identities, Latino Fates and Shared Futures in South Los Angeles

The Behavior, Health, and Society Research Cluster invites you to a special seminar on the changing demographics of South Los Angeles. USC Professors Manuel Pastor and Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo will present “Roots|Raices: Place Identities, Latino Fates and Shared Futures in South Los Angeles.” The research, conducted by the USC Center for the Study of Immigrant Integration, charts the emergence of Latinos in South LA in a way that recognizes conflicts and coalitions that deconstruct the experience by neighborhood and generation. At the same time, it stresses the need for an independent Latino voice as well as emphasizes African-American interdependence moving forward.
As an added bonus, Hondagneu-Sotelo will speak about her current research on parks and community gardens in South LA, titled “Black and Brown on Common Ground: Parks and Gardens in South Los Angeles.”
RSVP by April 24. Lunch will be served.
