California’s Mental Health Cooperative Programs provide collaborative employment services to assist people with severe psychiatric disabilities enter or re-enter their community workforce. These community-based collaborations between local county mental health and Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) field offices provide improved access and specialized employment services and mental health supports for consumers historically un-served or under-served in vocational rehabilitation.
Disability Insurance covers psychiatric disability
Disability Insurance (DI) is a part of the State Disability Insurance (SDI) program. It provides partial wage replacement benefits to eligible California workers who are unable to work due to a non-work-related illness, injury, or pregnancy. SDI contributions are paid by California workers through employee payroll deductions.

How Someone With A Mental Health Condition Can Qualify For Social Security Disability Benefits
If you have a mental health condition that limits your ability to perform routine daily tasks and keeps you from performing work to earn a living, you may qualify for disability benefits administered by the Social Security Administration (SSA). The SSA has two disability programs, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI). Both programs have strict medical requirements for a claim to be approved.
SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery (SOAR) is a model designed to increase access to Social Security disability benefits for individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a disabling mental health condition, a physical disability, or a co-occurring disorder.
