R. Paul Maiden, vice dean of the USC School of Social Work, has been appointed a reviewer of the Journal of Social Work Education, one of the most well-respected peer-reviewed journals in the profession of social work.

The Journal of Social Work Education is a refereed professional journal focused on education in social work and social welfare. It serves as a forum for creative exchange on trends, innovation and problems relevant to social work education at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels.

“I am pleased to have been invited to serve as a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Social Work Education,” Maiden said. “Having been editor of the Journal of Workplace Behavioral Health for the past 13 years, I appreciate the importance of the peer review process in selecting the most relevant and scientifically rigorous works to present to social work educators.”

At the USC School of Social Work, Maiden spearheaded the development of a military social work specialization, created the San Diego Academic Center, expanded the school's annual global immersion offerings and led the development of the school's Virtual Academic Center, which houses the first web-based Master of Social Work program from a major research institution that serves a national student population. His prior academic appointments include director of the University of Central Florida School of Social Work and chair of occupational social work at the University of Illinois at Chicago Jane Addams College of Social Work.

Maiden has more than 30 years of expertise in the field of workplace human services. In addition to his post as editor of the Journal of Workplace Behavioral Health, the only peer-reviewed journal in employee assistance research and practice, Maiden has published extensively in the areas of occupational social work, employee assistance programs, substance abuse and workplace legislation, trauma management, the evaluation of work-based human services, AIDS in the workplace, alcohol abuse and domestic violence at work, and managed behavioral health care.

He also has extensive international experience and twice has been the recipient of senior Fulbright Scholar awards, which funded trips to Russia and South Africa for research on workplace substance abuse and workplace violence.
