  • The California Social Welfare Archives (CSWA), which still retains the distinction of the only social welfare preservation organization west of the Mississippi, hosted its annual fall lecture and awards luncheon on Oct. 10 at Town & Gown to honor Rep. Henry Waxman and social work Professor Wendy Smith for their commitment to the advancement of social welfare.

  • Not even Lord Voldemort could have kept away the fans who turned out for the advance screening of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" on Nov. 13, 2005, on the Warner Bros. studio lot.

    The 500-seat Steven J. Ross Theatre was packed with Harry Potter enthusiasts of all ages, some who even donned "magical" attire, to welcome the fourth release in the popular witchcraft series featuring the world's favorite wizard-in-training.

  • The California Social Welfare Archives (CSWA) hosted its annual awards luncheon and Hall of Distinction induction ceremony on Nov. 1 at the USC Davidson Conference Center, honoring social work leaders across the state for their career accomplishments and commitment to the advancement of social welfare.

    In a surprise opening, Rossier School of Education Dean Karen Symms Gallagher awarded Distinguished Professor Emerita and Hall of Distinction inductee Frances Lomas Feldman membership into Phi Kappa Phi for her years of distinguished service.

  • The USC School of Social Work celebrated the grand opening of the Randall Information Center and the installation of 'Connections,' a mural depicting diverse images of the academic experience, both of which were made possible by a generous gift from the James H. Randall Family Foundation.

  • The University of Southern California School of Social Work will host its annual black-tie fundraising dinner, 'A Celebration of the Heart, 85th Anniversary Gala,' on Sunday, Mar. 6, at The Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills. This year's theme, 'Honoring the Past, Inventing the Future,' commemorates the university's 125th anniversary, as well as the school's own 85-year legacy of helping solve important social problems while attracting the best faculty and students for educating tomorrow's leaders.

  • The California Social Work Archives (CSWA) honored Ralph D. Fertig, clinical associate professor, with the George D. Nickel Award for Outstanding Professional Services today at its annual Hall of Distinction Induction Ceremony and Award Luncheon at the Doheny Memorial Library.

    The George D. Nickel Award is given annually in memory of the CSWA's primary founder to recognize an individual who has made distinguished contributions to the field of social welfare.

  • Social work pioneers, innovators and leaders will be recognized for their contributions to the profession and social welfare at the annual California Social Work Archives (CSWA) Award Luncheon on Nov. 1 at the Doheny Memorial Library's Archival Room on the University of Southern California campus in Los Angeles. The event begins with a reception at 11:30 a.m.

  • The University of Southern California School of Social Work has named Michalle Mor Barak and Madeleine Stoner to two newly endowed professorships and Iris Chi to a previously endowed chair, marking the first time in the School's history that all full professors now hold endowed chairs or professorships. All three will be honored at an installation dinner ceremony on Nov. 3 at Town and Gown on the University Park Campus.

  • On behalf of the University, Neal Sullivan, vice provost for research, recognized Marlene Wagner today for her two decades of service to the University Park Institutional Review Board, which monitors human subjects used in research.

    Friends and colleagues attended a special thank you reception at the University Club Pub to celebrate. Dr. Wagner is stepping down as chair of the IRB to concentrate on her expanded role as assistant dean of development and external relations for the School of Social Work.
