SUMMARY OF DUTIES
Under general direction of certificated or classified administrator, provides clinical supervision and direct services to assist students and families with their personal and social problems; assists students and families in understanding the causes of their problems and works with them to modify and change attitudes and behavior to facilitate learning.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
The class of Licensed Clinical Social Worker works in a school setting to provide clinical supervision of clinical social workers and other employees and deals with students and parents on a professional level. Incumbents supervise or directly provide psycho-therapy to students and parents who have social, truancy, delinquency or other problems which hamper their ability to learn. They make professional judgments and recommend courses of action to improve school attendance and achievement.
Essential duties and responsibilities of this class include but are not limited to:
> Trains, provides work direction, supervises and evaluates Clinical Social Workers and Social Worker Interns who provide an array of clinical social work services in the district
> Serves as mentor and guidance to the aforementioned as they strive to meet the requirements of Board of Behavioral Services and/or university requirements for masters degree
> Reviews clinical documentation to meet State Department of Mental Health quality and content requirements
> Performs psychiatric social work in an assigned location
> Promotes early identification of students with behavioral, social, and/or emotional problems and provides these students, their parents, and schools with opportunities for ameliorative intervention
> Consults with school personnel in matters of understanding and working with the effects of human feelings and conflicts on a student's learning and behavior
> Conducts in-service education
> Participates in the integration of services provided by the School-Based Mental Health Services Consortium with those offered by the District
> Conducts mental health assessment and diagnosis, treatment, and other ongoing group and individual psychotherapeutic services for students and their families in accordance with Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health policies and procedures
> Facilitates the involvement of community mental health agencies in the collaborative delivery of effective mental health services
> Promotes parent involvement in the educational process
> Provides mental health education for parents
> Participates in data collection and research projects of the Mental Health Services Section
> Prepares records, summaries, and statistical reports in compliance with the standards and requirements of the District and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health
Education: Earned Master's degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited college or university is required.
Experience: Three (3) years of full-time experience working in a social work setting involving school age children is required. Experience supervising employees is highly preferred.
