JOB SUMMARY:
Using professional opinion and independent judgment, Allies’ Extraordinary Families Foster Care Social Worker provides case management services to children and resource parents to ensure the safety, well-being, and the most positive outcomes for children in our care, coordinating services in cooperation with LA County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) case workers.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Evaluates the needs of the child; develops and updates Needs & Services Plan (NSP)
Coordinates services in cooperation with DCFS case workers
Facilitates joining children with appropriate and RFA approved resource families; liaises between families and the agency; ensures resource families maintain current RFA requirements
Supervises children in care; conducts meetings with children and resource families at regular intervals as required by regulations and following the child’s NSP
Provides clinical support services (e.g., accompaniment to school conferences, transportation, etc.) and relevant resources (e.g., referrals for medical, dental, counseling, etc.) to resource families to address a child’s transition into the resource home, and grief/loss issues that may result from a child’s reunification with family
Engages with the child's family members by coordinating and supervising court-ordered family time to ensure a safe, positive experience; assessing and documenting the quality of family time; supports both child and family interaction through coaching and education; recommends services and supports to family members to address barriers to reunification if applicable
Completes and updates case records and submits periodic reports on a timely basis according to agency policy and regulatory requirements
Responds in a timely and appropriate manner to emergency calls from resource parents; completes required special incident reports according to agency and regulatory requirements
Conducts site visits at resource homes to ensure ongoing compliance with requirements
Supports program/agency continuous quality improvement and advocacy efforts as needed

Qualifications

Master of Social Work, social welfare, marriage family and child counseling, child psychology, child development, counseling psychology, or social psychology from accredited college or university is required
Demonstrated working knowledge and application of child development, attachment theory, and family systems theory
2 years of experience in child welfare and/or adoptions preferred
Intermediate Microsoft Office Skills
Excellent writing and case management skills; able to express concepts clearly and concisely.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.
Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills; able to document case records and observation notes for child/family interactions efficiently and accurately
Capable of observing, assessing, and discerning resource parents’ abilities to provide safe and appropriate care for children
Fingerprint background clearance (DOJ, FBI & Child Abuse Clearance Index), or approved exemption
Successful completion of pre-employment physical, PPD test/risk assessment, proof of Covid-19 vaccination + Booster, immunizations for pertussis (Tdap), measles (MMR) and influenza (can decline)
Current CA driver’s license, valid auto insurance, and reliable transportation; car must pass inspection and have the ability to transport children (newborn to adolescent) in a rear seat.
