<p align="left">Designed for licensed clinical social workers and licensed marriage and family therapists, this course will provide participants an overview of current research on gang culture, theories of gang involvement and the historical context of gangs in Los Angeles, as well as current interventions and policies addressing the gang epidemic. By exploring potential root causes of gang violence, we can critically develop practices that address challenges for communities immersed in the cycle of gang violence.</p>

Joey Nunez Estrada Jr., MSW, PhD, Assistant Professor, San Diego State University. Dr. Estrada's research interests include school violence,street gang culture, school-based intervention, resiliency and youth empowerment. He is currently conducting research on the risk and protective factors for gang-involved youth within school communities.

Robert Hernandez, MSW, Part-time Lecturer, USC School of Social Work. Hernandez’s areas of interest include working with vulnerable youth populations, adolescent social issues, adolescent gang intervention, strength-based/empowerment modalities and youth development. He currently serves on the National Juvenile Justice Network, which advocates for juvenile justice system reform.

This course meets the qualifications for 3 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs and LCSWs. Tuition includes materials and certificates of completion.
