Seminar: University-based Research Centers as a Platform for Implementing and Sustaining a Research Program

The USC Immigrant Health Initiative and the Behavior, Health, and Society Research Cluster would like to invite you to an exciting, informative seminar about university-based research centers as platforms for implementing and sustaining research programs.
The seminar will be led by Mark Edberg, an associate professor at George Washington University and director of the Avance Center, a university-community partnership that aims to address public health problems that disproportionately affect Latino communities through research, mutual capacity building and prevention efforts. He also directs GWU’s Center for Social Well-Being and Development, which works globally to promote the understanding and use of a social-ecological approach to support positive health and social outcomes to reduce vulnerability.
A cultural anthropologist with a focus on public health, Edberg is particularly knowledgeable about how poverty and marginalization intersect with key health issues, such as HIV/AIDS, substance use and youth violence. He has done field or project work in urban areas of North America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean and retains a strong interest in immigrant and refugee populations, collaborating closely with organizations in the Hispanic/Latino and Southeast Asian communities.
Lunch will be served.
RSVP by March 15.
