Join the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work Alumni Association for Motivational Interviewing for Change for Nurses. Motivational Interviewing (MI) is an evidence-based, health behavior intervention, effective in strengthening patient engagement and motivation in a short amount of time. This 1-day interactive workshop provides participants with conversational skills to improve patient collaboration and follow-through. We will use demonstrations, videos, small group exercises, “real-plays” and role-plays to learn about and apply the MI spirit, skills, processes and strategies.

In this workshop, you will learn how to:

  • Reduce patient defensiveness and create better conversations/relationships with patients
  • Understand why and how patients change and what is holding them back
  • Identify how ready for change patients are
  • Practice strategies for accessing and increasing patients’ own motivation for behavior change

**Registered nurses attending in-person can earn 6 continuing education contact hours.

***Participants must attend the presentations from 9:00 a.m. until the program ends to receive CEUs.

Admission includes continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments. Parking is free onsite at the West Washington Building.
