This 3-day workshop will provide information about intimate partner violence identification and assessment, the dynamics of abusive relationships including dating violence, reasons why victims stay, the hostage syndrome and gender issues. Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a serious, preventable public health problem that affects women, men, children, families, and communities. The term intimate partner violence describes physical, sexual, or psychological harm by a current or former partner or spouse. This type of violence can occur among heterosexual or same-sex couples and does not require sexual intimacy. Violence by an intimate partner is linked to both immediate and long-term health, social, and economic consequences. Factors at all levels - individual, relationship, community, and societal - contribute to intimate partner violence. Preventing intimate partner violence requires reaching a clear understanding of those factors, coordinating resources, and fostering and initiating change in individuals, families, and society. The workshop will include an overview of the bio-psychosocial effects of IPV on children, perpetrator dynamics, cultural factors, same gender abuse dynamics, community resources, and trauma-informed responses and interventions.

The University Consortium for Children and Families (UCCF) is offering a limited number of spaces in courses free of charge exclusively to USC MSW and DSW alumni. This course offers 15 credit hours(CH)/Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

A $40 deposit will be refunded at the conclusion of the course, pending verification of your attendance. Note: Courses are offered on a one course, per student, per calendar year basis (January 1 through December 31), so please only register for one course.

These courses meet the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) criteria for Continuing Education (CEUs) for LCSWs in California. The courses are intended to help you stay apprised of recent developments and standards in clinical practice. To find out which courses are required for your licensure renewal, please visit the BBS website.
