Incorporating Geographic Information Systems into Program Evaluation

Learn how social service professionals are using basic geographic information systems (GIS) to evaluate community-based programs.
To bring awareness of geographic information systems technology and the ways in which real-world applications are making a difference in our society, the USC School of Social Work is hosting a panel discussion to coincide with World GIS Day and National Geography Awareness Week.
As social work professionals engage in location-based service delivery, GIS technology (i.e., mapping and spatial analysis) can be a useful planning tool to understand the community's social service needs and the impact of programs.
Panelists:
- Dr. Vandana Joshi - Program Head with the Research Evaluation/Data-GIS Unit, Department of Mental Health, Los Angeles County
- Dr. Dan Goldberg - Research Assistant Professor of Spatial Science and Associate Director, USC GIS Research Laboratory
- Brenda Wolfe - Product Manager for Community Analyst (GIS software) at ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute)
