In an effort to be more responsive to patient needs and provide care more effectively to its 10 million residents, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved the creation of a single, integrated health agency that merges the Departments of Health Services, Mental Health, and Public Health.

The hope is this will break down the bureaucratic barriers facing the county's patients, identify synergies, streamline operations and save money on administrative costs. Proponents say a unified agency will better coordinate services for patients who may have a combination of physical, mental health issues and substance abuse problems. Others fear money intended for mental health services will be diverted to hospitals. Join us in a conversation about what this new integration of care will mean.

Keynote speakers will include:
  • Roderick Shaner, medical director of the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health, speaking on “Critical Issues & Historical Perspective on Integrating Health Services”
  • John Connolly, deputy director for policy, strategic planning and communications for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Substance Abuse Prevention and Control, with his talk on “Los Angeles County Substance Use Disorders System Transformation”
  • Marc Trotz, director of Housing for Health within the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, will present “Housing for Health: Addressing Homelessness in Los Angeles County”

Space for the conference is limited. Registration is FREE. Attendees must RSVP with code: AHAHEALTH.

Registration and breakfast will be from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. Event parking and directions to venue will be provided to reserved guests.
