Laina Bay-Cheng, associate professor and director of the PhD program at the University at Buffalo School of Social Work, discusses her recent critiques of neoliberal ideology and its impact on youth sexuality. Through an interrogation of the variety and viability of options available to young people, she argues that youths’ sexual vulnerability stems not from the bad choices they make, but from the bad choices they are offered.
Bay-Cheng concentrates her research on the social determinants of young women’s sexual well-being. Fusing social work, intersectional feminist, and critical sexuality theory and methods, she examines and calls attention to the ways in which sexual vulnerability is rooted in social injustice.
The event will be livestreamed in SWC 118. You may also watch the live stream from your own device. RSVP for more information.
