The State of Homelessness in LA Today
July 17, 2017During the course of a year, 1.5 million Americans experience homelessness for at least one night. In the Los Angeles area alone, the homeless population has reached 57,000. This is an increase of 23% countywide from last year.
The USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work has made a commitment to the Grand Challenge to End Homelessness, and has launched many initiatives to address both the needs of the current homeless population as well as long-term solutions to the homelessness crisis. In 2017 the school led the annual Los Angeles Homeless Count, in partnership with the Los Angeles Homeless Services Administration (LAHSA).
