Biography
June Wiley has devoted the majority of her career to higher education leadership. Joining the Suzanne Dworak-Pek School of Social Work in 2010, she served as the inaugural director of the Virtual Academic Center (VAC) from 2010 – 2019. During this time, her leadership included the successful hiring, upon approval of the faculty, of an extensive number of full and part-time faculty to teach in the new nationwide program. Additionally, she created extensive opportunities for training in the state-of-the-art technology for optimal online pedagogy. She established collaborative networks between faculty teaching in the traditional classroom and those teaching online.
Along with her administrative responsibilities, Wiley also taught foundation level classes in the MSW program and leadership classes in the DSW program, and she co-authored several articles about the creation and development of successful online classroom environments and how to build a sense of community for students and faculty. As a member of the Department of Social Innovation and Change at the time, Wiley also created mentoring and coaching opportunities in that department to provide faculty with avenues to strengthen their attainment of professional goals related to their position.
Wiley returned to teaching full-time in the MSW and DSW programs after her VAC leadership role. A keen advocate of student engagement and leadership, she served as the co-advisor for the Black Student Caucus. In service to the university, Wiley began her work as an advisory member for the Center for Teaching Excellence (CET) with which she is still engaged.
She also served as chair for the MSW program and is currently teaching full-time in the MSW and DSW programs online.
