Job Description

Manage working groups, committees, and community efforts
● Identify, plan, and coordinate meetings and events, which includes advancing the event site,
developing the event plan, recruit attendees, coordinate speakers, manage the event, and
following-up as needed
● Proactively engaging, communicating with, and building relationships with association members,
local businesses, community groups, and local leaders
● Provide support for business association committees, including engaging and recruiting
committee members, setting agendas, attending meetings, taking notes, identifying key issues,
and taking actions resulting from the meetings
● Set up and facilitate meetings related to civic issues like housing, economic development,
healthcare, and transportation with experts from academia, government, and the private sector
● Promote civic engagement within the business community and employees, schools, and
residents to encourage participation at hearings, town hall discussions, and events.

● Field, reply to, and relay member concerns, complaints, and ideas to appropriate parties and
ensure they are met in a timely and satisfactory manner.
Tracking policy and monitoring/attending government and policy meetings
● Track legislation and policies, conduct legislative research and analysis, and support the
development of legislation on issues pertaining to funding and financial allocations, transit,
housing, safety and disaster management, licensing, building regulations, and other matters.
● Attend meetings on behalf of agencies and clients, including speaking on their behalf; summarize
city council and other government meetings; and provide public testimony when requested
● Attend community and civic events to help attendees connect with one another.
● Keeping current, as directed, on relevant City and State policy and legislation
Administration, including developing operational procedures, tracking and reporting
● Manage projects to support client objectives and milestones.
● Process paperwork and reporting related to agency operations and requirements.
● Prepare and present post program or event analysis and recommendations
Composing reports, articles, summaries, and other content for publications and presentations
● Draft and distribute agendas and materials for meetings
● Write reports and articles on key legislative, policy, and community topics
● Draft testimony, correspondence, briefings, and talking points for clients and executive staff
● Participate in coalitions and assist in mobilizing communities, association members, and local
elected officials and their staff (including collecting data, testimonials, and endorsements)

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required.
● Minimum 2 years of experience in public policy, government affairs, and communications within
a nonprofit organization, trade association, or local, state, or federal government agency or
elected office (5 years of experience is preferred).

● Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present complex
information concisely to engaged and less engaged audiences.
● Experience with public speaking and presentation development.
● Proven ability to identify, develop, and leverage key relationships into collaborative
opportunities with a range of stakeholders and diverse communities.
● Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize multiple projects and objectives, lead projects, and
work effectively with others internally to produce positive results.
● Strong understanding of the inner workings of local government, state legislature and Congress,
legislative committees, and relevant government agencies.
● Diligence, high ethical standards, focus, flexibility, a capacity for hard work, and a willingness to
work closely with multiple team members
