The USC Annenberg Civic Engagement Department seeks an intern to assist with their flagship summer program Annenberg Youth Academy for Media and Civic Engagement (AYA) and daily operations of the Civic Engagement Department. AYA is a competitive four week summer program for 26 local Los Angeles high school students. AYA scholars will study communication, journalism, and public relations for the duration of the program, while specifically focusing on advancing issues of race, gender, and ethnicity in communication and journalism communities of practice. Through coursework taught by Annenberg faculty, participants will develop a rich conceptual understanding and practice of the necessary role that media communications and journalism play in fashioning civic-minded thought leaders and innovators.
The AYA intern will work closely with the Civic Engagement Coordinator to successfully deliver a rewarding and enriching experience for the 26 scholars participating in the program. This position is open to both graduate and undergraduate students at the University of Southern California in good academic standing. Federal Work Study is not required.
USC Annenberg Civic Engagement Intern Duties Include:
- Create content and assist with running department IG account
- Assist with application process and admissions committee for AYA
- Communicate with students and parents about necessary paperwork to enroll in the program
- Create a program agenda for students on Canva or other graphic design program
- Support the implementation of Student and Parent Orientations
- Aid with Exhibition Showcase and Graduation
- Check-in/out AYA scholars each day during the four week program
- Assist with AYA daily logistics and track inventory of all program expenses
- Order catering for breakfast and lunch daily
- Special activities set-up and/or development of materials and activities for participants
- Chaperone field trips
- Enforce program and university rules
- Serve as a teaching assistant to the journalism course and assist with editing student articles and posting online.
- Support Civic Engagement events during the Spring 2024 semester
Current USC student undergraduate or graduate in good academic standing.
