Have you considered interviewing for a non-traditional internship or job? Are you considering selecting the Community Organization, Planning & Administration (COPA) or Work & Life concentrations? Then you should attend this workshop!

Social workers have a wide array of skills that all employers value, including those who do not traditionally hire social workers, such as private industry (i.e., corporations) and non-traditional departments in non-profit organizations. Employers value skills such as problem-solving, multi-dimensional assessment, strategic individual/community relationship building, project management, research and expertise in working with diverse populations, and resource coordination.

Dr. Carrie Lew, director of Professional Development and Alumni Relations, and Juan Macias, assistant director of Professional Development, have been working to identify and develop internships and jobs for USC graduate students and alumni in organizations and/or departments that may not ordinarily hire MSWs.

Attend this workshop to answer the following questions:

  • What are "non-traditional" social work (NTSW) internships/jobs and why are they worth considering?
  • Would an NTSW internship/job be right for you?
  • Learn about past and current NTSW internships/jobs, as well as internships in progress.
  • Why COPA and Work & Life concentrations are natural pathways to NTSW.
  • How might the Work & Life concentration change next academic year?
  • What are some transferable skills non-traditional employers look for when they consider hiring social workers?
RSVP required.
