Details:

Professor Lawrence Palinkas, director of the behavior, health, and society research cluster as well as primary investigator for the USC Immigrant Health Initiative, will give a presentation on global climate change and population displacement.

One of the most pronounced impacts of global climate change is the massive displacement of populations due to increased droughts, desertification, sea level rise and natural disasters resulting from the disruption of seasonal weather patterns. Whether internal or transnational, these population shifts will have significant implications for host cities, regions and nations, from strains on infrastructure capacities and economic resources to social challenges associated with changing community demographics. This presentation focuses specifically on the health issues facing this new wave of immigrants, better known as "ecological refugees," how these issues are likely to impact existing health infrastructure and service systems worldwide, and how we might begin to address these issues and impacts.

A light lunch will be served.

RSVP before September 9, 2014.
