Details:
Join the USC Immigrant Health Initiative for its next seminar on reducing mental health disparities in Latino populations. Sergio Aguilar-Gaxiola, a clinical professor of internal medicine at the University of California, Davis, will examine the extent of this treatment gap in Latinos and other ethnically/racially diverse populations in the United States. A demonstration will be given on how a local public behavioral health agency and community leaders of underserved communities can come together to build partnerships and organize decisions to achieve transformation of how health system services are delivered.

Aguilar-Gaxiola is the founding director of the UC Davis Center for Reducing Health Disparities and the director of the Community Engagement Program of the UCD Clinical Translational Science Center, as well as co-director of the UC Davis Latino Aging Research Resource Center. Over the past 25 years, Aguilar-Gaxiola has directed several federal, state and foundation-funded research programs focused on community-engaged approaches to addressing and reducing health disparities in underserved populations and the translation of health, mental health and substance abuse research findings into practice and policy. He is the author of more than 130 scientific articles and chapters and editor of two books.

Lunch will be served.
