Three-Part New Student Orientation

Part 1: Self-Paced Blackboard Course

Watch a series of videos and complete short quizzes focused on topics such as paying for your education, library services, and academic integrity. Please complete the Blackboard course by Tuesday, August 20, 2020.

To access the course, visit Blackboard and log in with your NetID. Under Organizations, click 2020 MSW Program Orientation.

Part 2: Live Orientation Webinar

Join us for a live orientation webinar on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 from 10 am to 1 pm Pacific Time. You'll hear from the dean, representatives from the National Association of Social Workers, your academic advising team, and other guest speakers. There will be time at the end to connect with your classmates in small groups.

Part 3: Virtual Resource Fair

Learn about the student organizations you can join and campus resources available to assist you. You can explore virtual booths and video chat with representatives from each group.

Other New Student Programs

USC Graduate Orientation (Optional)

Graduate Orientation is an optional program sponsored by the USC Office of Orientation Programs. Topics include financial aid, public safety, libraries, and other campus resources. 

Field Placement Orientation (Mandatory)

Students in the 4 semester (2 year) MSW program participate in a mandatory field placement orientation that focuses on the Reflective Learning Tool, Field Education Manual, and field placement policies. You will receive further instruction from your registered SOWK 589a (Applied Learning in Field Education) instructor.

Motivational Interviewing Training (Mandatory)

Students in the 4 semester (2 year) MSW program registered for SOWK 589a (Applied Learning in Field Education) will receive their first evidence-based practice training on Motivational Interviewing. Your registered SOWK 589a (Applied Learning in Field Education) instructor will share the specific instructions at a later date.
