Biography
JOSEPH HUNTER joined as a part-time adjunct lecturer in 2013. He teaches courses on clinical practice with service members and veterans as well as clinical practice in mental health settings. A licensed clinical social worker, he provides online and in-person continuing education for licensed social workers in the state of New York. He also serves as suicide prevention coordinator for the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Hunter is a behavioral health leader with 15 years of government employment experience, both at the state and federal levels. He has served as a subject matter expert in the areas of substance use disorders and suicide prevention and has contributed to the development of specialized innovations in the areas of clinical practice, research and treatment programming. He was the recipient of a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration dissertation grant. He was subsequently chosen as a Hartford Geriatric Social Work Scholar, a postdoctoral fellowship that provided mentorship as well as training in communications, research and policy. He is the originator of Self Preservation Theory and has developed related assessments and clinical interventions.
